Engine bay inspection of Concorde
Engineer inspecting one of the four engine bays of a Concorde supersonic aircraft, with the Rolls- Royce/Snecma 593 engine removed for maintenance. The ridged panels above and below at the rear are the 'eyelid' nozzle panels. These open or close to optimise engine performance and when fully closed they act as thrust reversers.Photographed July 2003 at Heathrow airport before Concorde's withdrawal from service.
