3-Dimensional molecular modelling
A view as from behind the computer screen as a scientist works on a computer keyboard with data from X-ray crystallographic studies to map the electron densities of a molecule in three dimensions. To do this the researcher wears stereo spectacles which work by allowing light with two different polarisations to form a 3-dimensional image. The molecule being studied, in the Glycobiology Research De[artment at the University of Oxford, is alpha-monocharin, a protein thought o have a role in blocking virus transmission.
