Osteoblasts, or growing human bone cells, as seen by a Scanning Elelctron Microscope (SEM). The magnification is x1480 if enlarged to 5x7cm size. Research is proceeding to develop liquid implants for use by patients with brittle bones or severe osteoporosis. The liquid will solidify around a glass-foam substrate and where they will help form new bone tissue.
