Tilting suction table for ME diagnosis
Multiple exposure photograph illustrating the working of a tilting table which has been developed to help with the diagnosis of disorders such as chronic fatigue syndrome, otherwise known as Myalgic encephalomyelitis or ME, and of patients suffering from dizzyness and unexplained blackouts. Under medical supervision a suction device reduces atmospheric pressure on the lower part of the patient's body and the table is tilted to a near-vertical position and any observed loss of conciousness or low blood pressure can help with diagnosis. The device was developed by Dr Anne Kenny at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK
