A medical specialist in asthma and allergies performs a nasal biopsy on a young girl suffering from allergic rhinitis or hay fever. The doctor uses a probe and a nostril expander to take a sample of nasal mucosa tissue which will be examined to determine the number of inflamed cells present. The relative degree of inflammation compared to previous samples will give an indication of the effectiveness of topical nasal sprays being used on this patient. Photographed at the National Heart & Lung Institute, London.
